What is the function of the forward-facing LiDAR on the DJI Air 3S/DJI Mavic 4 Pro/DJI Mini 5 Pro/DJI Neo 2?
The forward-facing LiDAR of DJI Lito X1/DJI Mini 5 Pro/DJI Air 3S/DJI Mavic 4 Pro/DJI Neo 2 can actively emit and receive lasers to proactively identify obstacles ahead. Even in low-light environments, it can navigate the aircraft to bypass obstacles by ascending when an obstacle ahead is identified.
Notes: If an obstacle ahead is identified by the forward-facing LiDAR, the aircraft will fly to bypass obstacles by ascending 10 m and then continue RTH. If an obstacle exceeds the height limit, the aircraft will brake to hover and the user will need to take control.
Can I disable the LiDAR?
When using S mode (i.e., Sport mode), the forward-facing LiDAR will be disabled automatically, not used for obstacle avoidance.
When using N mode (Normal) or C mode (Cine), you can disable it through the following path: “···” on the upper-right corner > Safety > Obstacle Avoidance Action > Off.
💡[Tips]When the aircraft is not in flight, the LiDAR will not be activated.
What obstacles cannot be identified by LiDAR?
LiDAR cannot identify certain objects or scenes, mainly including:
1. Wires
2. Glass
3. Snowscape
How can LiDAR and vision sensing system work together?
Obstacle avoidance at night: After takeoff, if the obstacle avoidance is activated, LiDAR operates continuously. In the scenarios where the vision sensing system fails, the forward-facing LiDAR system will still recognize objects in front of it. FOV: 60° vertically, 60° horizontally. Distance measuring range at night: 0.5 - 25 m (reflectivity > 10%)
Disabling obstacle avoidance: If obstacle avoidance is off, then both the forward-facing LiDAR and the vision sensing system are turned off.
What obstacles can be identified by LiDAR of different sizes?
During nighttime, regular objects with a diameter greater than 2.5 cm and a reflectivity greater than 40% can be identified.
💡[Tips] The actual size of obstacles that can be identified is related to the flying speed and the environment. If the flying speed is too fast, even if obstacles are identified, it may still lead to a crash. It is recommended to decrease the flying speed and pay attention to the surrounding environment when the lighting conditions are poor.
What is the obstacle avoidance logic of DJI Lito X1/DJI Mini 5 Pro/DJI Air 3S/DJI Mavic 4 Pro/DJI Neo 2 during the daytime? Will LiDAR be involved in obstacle avoidance?
During the daytime, DJI Air 3S mainly adopts the vision sensing system for obstacle avoidance. The aircraft internally adjusts its obstacle avoidance logic automatically based on environmental changes. When conditions are met, the LiDAR will work in conjunction with the vision system for coordinated obstacle avoidance.
Is there a visible red light when the forward-facing LiDAR is working?
The forward-looking LiDAR uses non-visible light, which cannot be seen by human eyes. When the LiDAR is working, a flashing purplish-red light can be observed* at the LiDAR sensor through the camera of a mobile device.
* It is observed when the aircraft is working.
* Some mobile devices (known devices: iPhones and iPads) may not be able to capture the light, which is normal.
What is the difference between the forward vision system laser radar and the lower bottom three-dimensional infrared sensor?
Laser radar msx in the obstacle avoidance system can achieve bypass action. GPS-free return to home also relies on laser radar, downward vision three-dimensional infrared sensors are mainly used to altitude metering from the ground.
What is the power/consumption of the front-facing LiDAR?
We are very sorry, but currently there is no power and consumption parameter available for the forward-facing laser radar. But don’t worry. The forward-facing LiDAR has obtained relevant certifications and complies with safety standards, so it will not cause harm to the human body or cameras.
What type of lidar do DJI Lito X1, DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 4 Pro, and DJI Neo 2 use?
Solid-state LiDAR.
After the remote controller is completely disconnected from the aircraft, can the lidar function still work?
Effective.
When DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 4 Pro, or DJI Neo 2 is hovering, will the aircraft move backward if a hand approaches the forward-facing LiDAR?
DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 4 Pro, and DJI Neo 2 aircraft will generally automatically brake or bypass when an obstacle is detected, and do not currently support moving backward.
Why is the laser radar of DJI Mavic 4 Pro installed on the right front arm? Will it affect obstacle avoidance functionality?
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro cleverly places the LiDAR on the right front aircraft arm to optimize the body space layout. Due to the gimbal device occupying the front of the aircraft, this side position provides the LiDAR with a stable, unobstructed view, effectively avoiding interference from other devices and ensuring measurement accuracy and data collection integrity. It also does not affect the obstacle avoidance function of the aircraft. The radar's FOV is 60° vertically and 60° horizontally. With this design, the LiDAR can reliably support aerial photography performance and enhance flight safety.
What are the measuring range and FOV of the forward-facing LiDAR on DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 4 Pro and DJI Neo 2?
Measuring range: 0.5 m to 25 m at night (reflectivity greater than 10%)
FOV: 60° vertically, 60° horizontally.
DJI Neo 2 Forward-Facing LiDAR:
Measuring range: 0.3 m to 8 m (reflectivity greater than 10%)
Field of View (FOV): Horizontal 60°, vertical 60°.
Why is the forward-facing LiDAR on the DJI Mini 5 Pro designed as a split type?
To increase the gimbal's tilt range, the DJI Mini 5 Pro uses a split-structure LiDAR design.
